Croft Castle Journey IV (2010)

Meadow Arts commissioned this work for a performance day at Croft Castle in Herefordshire. This performance entitled Journey IV is in conversation with the artist Ned James, we discussed the theme of the the Meadow Arts exhibition; "Tell It To The Trees." The grounds of Croft castle are adorned with long avenues of ancient and modern Chestnut trees some dating back to defeat of the the Spanish Armada. Legend has it that the estate owns trees which were planted from seeds found on the wreckage of the vanquished Spanish flotilla.
Here I am puling my own fleet, a fleet of China made Galleons on the deck of Chinese decks pulled by a plastic Chinese atlas throughout the grounds of Croft for a day. Using the reference from Part I Chapter VIII of Gulliver's Travels written by Jonathan Swift this performance was both a satirical nod and provocation and the examination of man's folly in the world.
